Training: Gwen Stephens, LCSW returned to her community college, Copiah-Lincoln in Wesson, Mississippi, in 1992 after graduating with Associate of Arts degree in Secretarial Science in 1911. to start a new career. She transferred to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS the summer of 1993 after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and a minor in history and foreign language studies in Spanish in 1996. ln 1997, she attended Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA to take a college course in Counseling Children while also working at a drug and alcohol detox center.
ln 1998, she attended graduate school at the University of Southern Mississippi School of Social Work, earned a Master’s degree in 2000, and was licensed as a clinician in 2006. She has worked for a nursing home, the Medicaid Waiver program, as a mental health therapist in an inpatient rehabilitation center for children and adolescents, program Director of a boy’s group home, as a stress counselor for FEMA on the MS Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina, Program Director of a Geriatric Psychiatric Unit, group therapist for an intensive Outpatient Program for senior adults, and has had a private practice all before relocating to Texas.
After moving to Cleveland, TX, she worked for a home health agency doing home evaluations and referrals for services. ln September of 20L4, she became the first behavioral health counselor for the Health Center of SoutheastTexas. She works in three of the four clinics: in Cleveland on Monday, Thursday, and Friday, in Liberty on Tuesday, and Livingston on Wednesday.
